General Information
The Parks & Recreation Community Center (Old Gym) is Open for Rentals!

The Community Center (Old Gym) is available for public reservations and rentals during regular facility hours, ONLY.  In an effort to reduce risk, provide supervision and maintain the cleanliness, the Community Center is available for reservations during regular facility hours.  You can find our hours on our website at www.wrangellrec.com 

Reservations require at least one week’s notice to allow for proper scheduling and preparation.

Facility Rules: All private parties, events, and programs must follow our facility rules and guidelines. Please review them carefully before confirming your rental.

Cleaning: Renters are responsible for cleaning the facility after their event. The return of your cleaning deposit will depend on the condition of the facility post-event.

Reservations, rentals and refunds
Community Center Rental Guidelines

Reservation Requests: All rentals require a reservation request, which must be reviewed and approved by the Department Director or designee.

Availability: The Community Center is available to rent during regular facility hours unless otherwise posted.

Lead Time: Reservations must be submitted at least one week in advance to allow for coordination and preparation.

Confirmation: Your reservation is not confirmed until it’s approved and full payment and paperwork are submitted, along with the cleaning deposit.

Fees & Deposit:
  • Rental fees are based on total use time, including setup and cleanup.
  • A $150 cleaning deposit (separate from the rental fee) will be refunded after a successful post-event inspection. A cleaning checklist will be provided.
Equipment: Recreation and sports equipment is available.  Please ask a P&R employee while discussing the rental reservation.

Use and Activities
Community Center Use Guidelines

Damages & Misuse: User groups are responsible for any damages. Misuse or failure to follow the rules may result in forfeiting the deposit and/or denial of future rentals.

Cleaning Deposit: A cleaning deposit of $150 (check preferred) is required. It will be refunded if the facility is left in its original condition.

Cleaning & Setup:
  • Leave the room as you found it - clean and decoration-free.
  • No staples or nails on walls or floors.
  • Return tables and chairs to their original location and clean them before storage. Request tables and chairs in advance.  If you do not request tables and chairs - we will not automatically provide them. 
Supplies: Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, and garbage liners are available in the laundry room (across from the office).

Gym Use: If food and drinks are allowed, the gym floor may need to be wet-mopped with clean, warm water. Change the water frequently to avoid streaking.

Trash: Take garbage to the dumpster behind the Community Center (Reid Street).

Dances: A dance permit is required, with six chaperons (18+). A signed permit from the Police Department must be posted during the event.

Floor Protection: Mats and runners are available to cover the gym floor if needed.

Community Center Rules
  • Shoes: Please avoid wearing street shoes on the gym floor. Mats may be used during dances, or participants may be asked to remove shoes.
  • Language: Foul or abusive language will not be tolerated - offenders will be asked to leave.
  • Drugs & Alcohol:
    • Drugs are prohibited. Offenders will be asked to leave, and the Police Department will be notified.
    • Alcohol is not allowed without prior approval and necessary permits. Violators will be asked to leave, and the Police Department will be notified.
  • Tobacco: No smoking or chewing tobacco allowed.
  • Food & Drink: Not allowed in the gym.
  • Outside Equipment: Not allowed in the gym without prior approval.
  • Safety: Any hazardous behavior will result in removal from the facility.

Waiver
I certify that I am the authorized representative of the organization named above and that the above statements are true.  I agree for myself and for the organization named above to supervise all activities on the premise, and to comply with and enforce the rules and regulations of the facility during the time allocated for use by our group/organization.  I agree for myself and for the organization named above to comply with the fee schedule governing permit users of City & Borough of Wrangell facilities.
 
The City & Borough of Wrangell immediately terminates this agreement if the Renting Party fails to comply with its promises to supervise all activities and to comply with and enforce all rules and regulations.
 
HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT

 
The Renting Party or group using the facility agrees to hold the City & Borough of Wrangell, its agents, employees and officials, while acting within the scope of their duties, harmless from all causes of action, demands and claims, including the cost of their defense, arising in favor of the organization, the organization’s employees, or third parties on account of personal injuries, death or damage to property arising or of the premises or in any way resulting from the willful or negligent acts or omissions of the organization, its agent, employees or representatives.
