2014 Fun Run
Parks & Recreation hosts several FUN RUNS throughout the year, helping to raise money for recreation equipment, and the youth fee assistance fund. 

Along with raising money for a great cause, participating in one of our FUN RUNS offers up physical, emotional and community benefits.  Runners, and walkers will improve their cardiovascular endurance, boost mood and connect with fellow community members. 

Get sweaty for a great cause!

 

Please remember these things when attending one of our runs!
  • Dogs must be on a leash.
  • Please pick up after your pooch.
  • Keep your distance.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid attending this activity if you are sick.

Alaska Day 5K, 10K, Half Marathon Fun Run

Fourth of July 5K Fun Run

  • LOCATION: Swimming Pool
  • SIGN-UP: 7:00AM
  • RUN/WALK START: 7:30AM
  • FREE ENTRY!
  • ROUTE: Airport Loop
  • Please leash up your pup

Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run
  • DATE:
  • LOCATION: Covered basketball court
  • SIGN-UP: 8:45am
  • RUN/WALK START: 9:00am
  • DONATION AMOUNT: $10, pay at the event. Cash or check (check can be made out to Wrangell P&R)
  • ROUTE: Nature Trail/Volunteer Trail loop, approximately three times around the big loop. Folks can choose to shorten the distance.

2024 BEARFEST RACE DETAILS
  • The rolling course for the Bearfest race is set in beautiful, scenic Wrangell along the Inside Passage of Alaska, complete with aid stations and support staff. The course runs mostly on cement sidewalk and pavement roads. A large section is along the waterfront where you may see whales, seals, and certainly eagles. Make a vacation out of it to enjoy the festivities and spend a few days seeing the spectacular sights that define Alaska! Please contact us with any questions at recreation@wrangell.com.
  • There will be a pre-race meeting/pasta feed the night before (Saturday, July 29th). Details to come!
  • The winner of the Full Marathon receives a trip for two to the Anan Bear Observatory. Participation medals are awarded to all half and full marathon runners.
  • The Cub Dash and 5K courses loops, the half and full marathons are out and back.
  • Mile markers and turnaround points will be labled for each event.
  • Aid stations will be set up to provide snacks, Gatorade, and water at mile 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 13.5

AID STATION SIGN-UP
  • We are looking for teams, businesses, and other groups of people to aid the dedicated runners and walkers during the Bearfest marathon, half marathon, and 5K.
  • Each station will be provided with tables, chairs, drinks, snacks, and cups, and first aid kits. The aid station volunteers will be resonsible for ensuring snacks and drinks are ready and available for racers to grab on their way by.
  • The Aid Stations are themed! We encourage each station to dress up, decorate, and fully embrace your theme. The station that embraces their theme the most will win a fun prize for the whole team!
  • The stations available are below:

  • Mile 4 - Salmon - Public Works
  • Mile 6 - Black Bear - AVAILABLE

  • Mile 13.5 - Berries - Tongass Federal Credit Union
