Youth Swim Lessons & Camps

Wrangell Parks & Recreation offers swim lessons and camps at various times throughout the year, with a concentrated series during the summer months. Water safety and swimming skills taught during structured aquatics activities will benefit kids for the rest of their lives.  Learning how to swim helps to increase strength and endurance, range of motion, social connection and confidence.

Level based swim lessons are tailored to the needs of the students within each group. Students advance to the next level of skill, by completing an exit assessment at the end of each session. Parents and families should expect progress and understand that students may enroll in one level, multiple times before advancing into the next level of instruction. The Department's swim lesson curriculum is accredited through Jeff Ellis and Associates.

Swim Camps are offered throughout the summer months, providing an opportunity for students to learn about the components of competitive swimming. In addition to focusing on stroke efficiency and developing swimming posture we will stress things such as streamlining on starts and turns, carrying speed from the start or turn seamlessly into the stroke, stroke tempo and finishing the stroke with speed and proper form.
